Jumping Spider 1

Family: Salticidae (Jumping Spiders)

Location: Sunplaza Park

<- This jumping spider landed on my jockey cap while I was taking a rest on a park bench under a tree.

One of my observations with jumping spiders is that they like to explore strange objects, e.g. my encroaching lens, and jump onto them. This one was cleaning itself after it got comfortable with my prying black lens.

Jumping spiders have excellent vision. They have eight eyes, two of them very prominent. The retinas of the eyes are the darkest. If they are brownish or some change in colour, the spider is looking elsewhere. If at their darkest, the spider is looking directly at you!
