Twig-Like, Feather-Legged Spider

Family: Uloboridae (Feather-Legged Spiders)
Species: Miagrammopes sp.

Location: Labrador Park

One of the strangest spiders that I have come across has to be the Twig-Like, Feather-Legged Spider. When it straightens itself on a strand of silk, it looks just like a piece of twig wavering in the wind.

The one pictured here was adjusting its single-line snare before returning to its more common twig-like mode. When an insect lands and hits the thread, the spider releases the line which springs back and entangles the insect.
