Heavy Jumper 1 (Stacked 3)

Family: Salticidae (Jumping Spiders)
Species: Hyllus diardi (Heavy Jumper Spider)

Location: Pasir Ris Park

Hyllus spiders are big (often over 10mm). They have a thickset cephalothorax and their legs are densely covered with hairs.

I caught this white beauty on the prowl from a few meters away because of its prominent colour. It was very shy and kept hiding from me when I approached with my lens. When coming out of hiding, it constantly moved sideways and back, most of the time facing me and checking me out with its 4 anterior eyes.

After several pictures, I put down my lens and inched my face closer to take a better look at this beauty. Suddenly, it jumped onto my nose with a noticeable thug and before I could react, it was off and hurriedly away. What a jumper!
