Scarlet Pygmy 1 (Male)

Family: Libellulidae (Skimmers & relatives)
Species: Nannophya pygmaea (Rambur, 1842)
Common Name: Scarlet Pygmy

Location: Tampines Mountain Biking Trail

This is the smallest true dragonfly in Singapore (about 16mm in body length) and possibly the world (i.e. until I see a smaller one).

This species is common in Singapore. The male has a red thorax and abdomen. Its eyes are red on top and dark brown below, with a sharp line of delineation. The wing base is tinted with amber.
