Pulau Ubin (Granite Island)

Pulau Ubin is a quaint, boomerang-shaped island located in the north eastern corner of mainland Singapore. In the past, granite minings on the island supported a few thousand settlers. The word ubin is a Javanese term for "squared stone". The rocks were used to make floor tiles and were called Jubin, which was then shortened to Ubin. NParks is developing Pulau Ubin into a BIG nature park with much of its natural environment and heritage preserved. Visitors will be able to experience the rustic community atmosphere comprising of disused granite quarries, coconut and rubber plantations, mangrove swamps, fish and prawn farms and last but not least, traditional villages.
