Where can you see a queer, motley mix of seahorse, tortoises, penguins, frog, lobster, river rat and formula one cars gathering in one place? The answer is at Clarke Quay on the 24th - 25th May for The Amazing Raft Race which is currently in its 20th year. I went down on Sunday to witness the river races. The oddball rafts were made of recycled materials; and together with canoes, dragonboats and other watercrafts, the competitors from secondary schools, tertiary institutions and the media vied for that exclusive, year-long bragging rights. While some might look good on land, a few rafts were not too 'river'-worthy and thus some competitors experienced cool bums on a hot day with gradually 'sinking feelings'
