Atlas Moth

Family: Saturniidae
Species: Attacus atlas (Linnaeus 1758)
Common Name: Atlas Moth

Location: Pulau Ubin

An Atlas Moth (aka Snake Head Moth) perched in the still of the night. It is so named because of the map-like patterns on its wings.

Both sexes possess non-functional mouth parts and therefore do NOT feed. They survive entirely on larval fat reserves throughout their 1-2 weeks of adult life.
