Al-Abrar Mosque

Another National Monument on Telok Ayer Street is the Al-Abrar Mosque. It began life in 1827 as a thatched hut.

Its Indian-Muslim congregation was mostly from the Coromandal Coast of southern India, known as the Chulias. From 1850 - 1855, the humble hut was transformed into a brick and plaster structure, with a simple Indian-Islamic theme.
